Dictation software for lawyers: client details stay on your computer
Every dictation in a law firm contains client and opponent names, case references and figures. SayLocal turns your voice into text on the computer you are dictating on – recordings and texts are not sent to us or anyone else.
For Mac and Windows · Trial with an email address, no credit card
Why local processing matters for law firms
Lawyers are bound by professional confidentiality. With a cloud dictation service, every recording is processed on someone else’s servers. SayLocal runs the speech recognition on your Mac or PC – on the Apple chip’s graphics unit or the graphics card, otherwise on the processor – and deletes the recording afterwards. It is never uploaded and never stored.
Under the GDPR this means no data processing agreement is needed for the speech recognition, because nothing is transmitted for it. Only your email address and license data, the purchase via Stripe and a brief license check (license key only, server in the EU) are processed.
Dictate straight into your documents
- Click into the letter, file note or email.
- Hold a key – Fn on the Mac, right Ctrl on Windows, or any key you choose.
- Speak and let go. The text appears at the cursor with punctuation, without “um” and “er”.
SayLocal types into any app where you can type – Word, Outlook, the browser and the input fields of your practice management software. Use the 3-day free trial to check it with your own software.
Client names spelled right
Correct a name once and SayLocal spells it right from then on. You can also record a difficult word by voice or add it to your word list in advance. When you reply to an email, SayLocal reads the names in that window – in working memory only, nothing is stored or sent.
Measured on 16 Oct 2026: of 31 difficult names and terms in German, English and French, SayLocal first got 21 wrong. 16 of those were right after a single correction, 18 when the word was also recorded by voice. Results vary with other voices, microphones and words.
Client meetings as text
SayLocal Notes (included, off by default) transcribes Teams, Zoom and phone meetings on your own computer – no bot joins, only text is saved, never audio. More: local meeting notes.
For the whole firm

This page describes how SayLocal works technically. It is not legal advice. Whether SayLocal meets your professional and data protection obligations is for you or your data protection officer to assess.
Pricing

Frequently asked questions
Can Conto IT read my dictations?
No. Recordings and texts never reach us – they are processed on your computer. If you sync your word list between two devices, it is end-to-end encrypted and only you hold the key.
Does SayLocal work offline?
Yes. After activation you can dictate without an internet connection. SayLocal checks the license briefly once or twice a day and keeps working for up to 7 days without a connection.
Is there any cloud processing I need to rule out?
Only on Intel Macs and PCs without a suitable graphics card is there an optional cloud recognition, which is off by default. On Macs with Apple silicon and PCs with a suitable graphics card it does not exist.
Does it work with my practice management software?
SayLocal types into any field where you can type. Test it with your own software during the free 3-day trial.
Which languages are supported?
28 languages, including English, German, French, Spanish and Italian. You can switch on a second language.
